Hozier has revealed his shock at his rise to fame.

The Irish singer-songwriter was a breakthrough artist in 2014 with the single 'Take Me To Church'.

However, the musician told Billboard that it all came as a surprise to him as he made music for small audiences.

Hozier said: "On 'Take Me to Church', the vocals were recorded in my attic.

"I'd made a conscious decision to write music for a much smaller audience. I did not think it would resonate with mainstream culture."

'Take Me To Church' meanwhile was recently named as the third best selling single in the UK so far this year.
