Shawn Mendes on debut album 'Handwritten': 'There's music on there you wouldn't expect'

Young heartthrob Shawn Mendes has just shot to No.1 in the U.S. with the release of his debut album 'Handwritten' and he recently sat down for an interview with Sugarscape.

Speaking about the record, he confessed that it's something that's very personal to him and he loves every song on the tracklisting: "It's similar to my older music, but it's very unique. There's some stuff you might not have been expecting, but I'm excited about it... it's very me. 'A Little Too Much' is one of my favourites."

The Canadian sensation went onto talk about his friendship with British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and revealed that they speak to each other now and again, and he's so impressed by Sheeran's talent: "Yeah, definitely, I still keep in touch with him. I actually texted him last night [...] He's killing it."

During a recent interview with radio station 99.7, meanwhile, the singer was asked if he ever gets annoyed by all the screaming his fans do when he sings and replied: "No, but sometimes in the middle of a slow song you hear vulgar things being shouted out! I've actually been pretty lucky (no one has ever thrown vulgar things onto the stage)."
