Avril Lavigne on Lyme disease diagnosis: 'Doctors told me I was crazy'

'Sk8er Boi' sensation Avril Lavigne has revealed that trying to get a medical diagnosis for her Lyme disease was really tough because a lot of doctors didn't think she even had it.

Speaking to 'Good Morning America' recently, the superstar confessed that she "went from doctor-to-doctor for about eight months" and many opinions concluded that she was probably exhausted or dehydrated.

The singer explained that she was even told by some doctors that she was 'crazy': "I actually knew I had it the whole time and was just up against a lot of doctors telling me, ‘You’re crazy.’ Some of them were like, ‘It doesn’t exist.'"

Despite being severely unwell, Lavigne admitted that the one silver lining is having a real break from the chaotic schedule she usually operates on: “I’ve never had so much down time in my life... so it’s been good in that sense.”

Lavigne, meanwhile, has finally unveiled the music video for her new song 'Fly', which she recorded in support of the upcoming Special Olympics. Speaking about the track, she told 'GMA': "(The song is) about inner strength and courage... The message of the song is to show the world that they can overcome the challenges and that everyone is meant to shine and this song took on a whole new meaning for me during the time that I've been sick, which was pretty magical."
