Blur debut at No. 1 on UK album chart

Re-formed Britpop band Blur have returned to the top of the UK chart with their first album release in 12 years.

‘The Magic Whip’ is the eighth studio album from Blur – made up by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree – and is the group’s sixth chart-topper to date following on from 1994’s ‘Parklife’, 1995’s ‘The Great Escape’, 1997’s ‘Blur’, 1999’s ‘13’, and 2003’s ‘Think Tank’.

At No. 2 this week is Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ which has risen eight places.

The No. 3 spot belongs to James Bay’s ‘Chaos and the Calm’, which is up two positions.

Last week’s No. 1 album from Josh Groban, ‘Stages’, now sits at No. 4.

Completing the Top Five is another climber as Meghan Trainor’s ‘Title’ has risen from No. 7 to No. 5.

Other than Blur’s ‘The Magic Whip’ there are another two new entries to this week’s Top 40 album chart courtesy of The Proclaimers at No. 26 with ‘Let’s Hear It For The Dogs’, and the Zac Brown Band score their first ever Top 40 UK album with ‘Jekyll + Hyde’ at No. 36.
