Charli XCX not able to sell tampons as merchandise: 'It's a health issue'

'Boom Clap' sensation Charli XCX is set to hit the road with Bleachers in July and confessed that it'll be more of a 'punk' show than her fans will be expecting.

Speaking to MTV News about the upcoming jaunt, she admitted that it'll be less electronic and a lot edgier because she wants to get back to the 'raw' sound her album was inspired by:

"I really want to focus this tour on just my album 'Sucker'. I really want to take it back to the original idea I had when making this record, which was to make a super raw, very punk-inspired album. I think I’m going to change it sonically so it’s more that. A lot less electronic. It’s cool. It’s going to be wild. It’s going to be sweaty.”

She went onto add that unfortunately her plans for merchandise were quashed because of potential health issues: "I really wanted to make tampon merch. That was a dream of mine for a really long time — to have tampons that say ’Sucker’ on the side and ’Pu–y Power’ on the box. But it’s a health issue if someone’s going to put it in their vagina. People throw me tampons sometimes and I’m like, ’Great! I don’t have to go to the CVS!'"
