Florence + the Machine to replace Foo Fighters as Glastonbury headliners

'Ship To Wreck' hitmakers Florence + the Machine will replace Foo Fighters as the Friday night headliners of Glastonbury Festival

The event's organiser, Emily Eavis, explained in a statement: "We're very pleased to announce that Florence + The Machine will play the Friday night Pyramid headline slot, which Foo Fighters were forced to withdraw from yesterday."

Eavis added: "Once we heard the sad news that Foo Fighters had been forced to pull out, there was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence. Every time she has played here she’s done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I’m delighted she’s agreed to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!"

The band were scheduled to perform at the festival on June 26 at 7.15pm, but will now move into the headlining spot. Earlier this month, frontwoman Florence Welch admitted that she would be honoured to headline Glastonbury, but didn't feel as though this was the right year for it:

"I think I'm quite happy with where we are (on the bill). It would be wonderful to headline, but also I don't know how I'd be dealing with that right now. I'm not really planning what's going to happen at Glastonbury, because I just don't know. It's almost quite hard for me to remember gigs sometimes, because I just don't know what happens. It's almost as if something else completely takes over."
