Iggy Azalea slams the media for trying to create tension between her and Britney Spears

Rapper Iggy Azalea recently admitted that she wishes her collaborative single with Britney Spears, 'Pretty Girls', had been given more support and promotion, which led to the press speculating that there was tension between the two artists.

On Monday, she told her followers that the track didn't do well because it wasn't promoted and tweeted

"It's difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. Unfortunately, I'm just featured... I would have enjoyed performing it a lot, I think it got off to a powerful start. But you need content to compete in 2015."

Spears seemed to make a comment in light of Azalea's criticism and then shared the following tweet, which appeared to be a dig at Azalea's cancelled tour: "Can’t wait to get back to Vegas. So thankful I have shows for the rest of the year to look forward to... #YouWantAPieceOfMe."

The 'Fancy' sensation took to Twitter in the early hours of this morning and slammed the media for trying to "create a beef" between herself and the pop superstar, writing:

"I am honestly not surprised, but still really saddened that the media is trying to create a 'beef' between @britneyspears and myself... We remain friends and I haven't said anything negative at all about her. Does wishing we had promoted a single more make me the bad guy? I feel like the media wants women in music to get out and mud wrestle each other. As a woman, I take great offense."

"Women in the media should be able to have a grown up and subjective opinion without it being anything more than that. It's disappointing... No one is throwing 'shade' or 'shots' on either side of the table. The girl (Spears) is my friend and I support her 100%... I feel like the press just wants to see girls be overtly sexual to one another, and have no real opinion other than 'I love it!'"

"I'm over it. Women in music are not the same as a teen drama. Stop making us all out to be, we are business women & artists. Not mean girls."

The superstar then returned to her official Twitter page and told fans that she has decided to break her social media hiatus: "And to all freelance bloggers: YOU'RE WELCOME. I'm back on twitter connecting with my fans; so you have tons to twist and get paid off again."
