Lionel Richie tops the midweek UK albums chart after Glastonbury performance

Singer Lionel Richie has shot straight into the No.1 position on today's (July 1) midweek albums chart update with 'Lionel Richie & The Commodores’ The Definitive Collection' after an amazing performance at Glastonbury Festival over the weekend

The Official Charts Company has confirmed that Richie's hits collection has seen a staggering 2693%boost in just the past week versus the same period last week, and if it maintains its lead this will be the icon's first No.1 album in 23 years.

Glastonbury has had an enormous impact on today's midweek update as 17 of today’s Official Albums Chart Update Top 40 members are belonging to Glastonbury 2015 acts, including headliners Florence + The Machine’s 'How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful' at No.2 and The Who’s 'Who Hits 50' at No.12. James Bay’s 'Chaos and the Calm' is at No.4.

Taylor Swift’s '1989' climbs one place to No.3 midweek following her headlining performance at British Summer Time Hyde Park and Miguel is set to make his Official Chart debut this weekend with 'Wildheart' at No.19.
