Shawn Mendes was a scrappy kid: 'I was in a few fights believe it or not'

Canadian superstar Shawn Mendes has revealed that he often got into trouble at school for fighting although it was never anything too serious.

During a new interview with Bar Down, the 'Stitches' sensation was asked if he ever got into scraps at school and confessed that he definitely had his fair share of 'tussles':

"Believe it or not actually, I actually was in loads when I was in elementary school. Someone used to say to me, "why do you like, why do you put yourself into the problems," because I always found when I saw kids getting bullied on I would always step in, but then I would feel bad (laughs), but yeah I was definitely in more than 5 or 10 tussles. No, nothing as bad as it was in that video ('Stitches'), I really got beat up in that video (laughs)."

Earlier this month, Mendes admitted that he really values his family and friends because they help to keep him very grounded: "A lot of it comes down to my family and people I hang out with, my friends not acting any different when I come home, my parents being really awesome."
