The nominees for this year's MTV VMAs were announced this week and rapper Nicki Minaj wasn't happy with her lack of recognition. 

Minaj shared a series of posts on Twitter last night about how "black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it", and Taylor Swift ended up wading into her argument, telling Minaj: "I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..."

Bruno Mars, who has been nominated in 5 categories for his hit single 'Uptown Funk', took to his official Twitter page earlier today (July 22) and joked that he wanted to get in on the action so tagged Ed Sheeran in an attempt to stir up some banter: "Yo, I want in on this twitter beef!! VMAs is the new WWF!! @edsheeran F**k You!"

Upon seeing Mars' tweet, the 'Thinking Out Loud' superstar fired back with an equally entertaining message: "Any way we do dis you gon' come up short!" Mars then added: "That Cut deep... U always know how to sheer me to the core. I can't believe we're Sheeran this in public. How dare u!"
