Celebrities and music stars slam dentist for senseless killing of Cecil the lion

News broke earlier this week that an american dentist named Walter Palmer had paid a large sum of money to mindlessly kill a well-known lion named Cecil during a hunting trip to Zimbabwe.

Palmer has now issued a statement saying he regrets killing Cecil and that he blames his guides for allowing the lion's death to occur:

"I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favourite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt. I relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt."

As this story swept the globe, celebrities and musicians alike took to social media to share their disgust at the fact that a human could feel pride and joy in hunting animals. Rocker Juliette Lewis posted the following message to her Instagram account, which she accompanied with a strong image of a lion's face: "I believe that sorry dentist #WalterPalmer is hearing the lion's roar right about now. #animalrights #LionLove #karma."

Sharon Osbourne tweeted: "#WalterPalmer is Satan. I don't know how anyone could go to this man for dental services after this. He is a killer. Beware! I hope that #WalterPalmer loses his home, his practice & his money. He has already lost his soul. When he dies, I hope someone mounts his ugly ass head to the wall. #WalterPalmer is a COWARD."

Mark Hoppus, of Blink-182 fame, added: "Luring a lion out of a national park to shoot him, let him roam injured for 40 hrs, kill/behead him, & try to destroy his tracking collar." Professor Green wrote: "I need to not read anymore about Cecil the lion, the whole thing just makes me hate humans even more than I already do."

Actress, model and sometimes singer Cara Delevingne also shared a post about the horrendous act of cruelty on Twitter, writing: "This #WalterPalmer is a poor excuse of a human being!"

Actor and writer Ricky Gervais, who often speaks out in support of animal rights, tweeted: "It's not for food. It's not the shooting, or tin cans would do. It must just be the thrill of killing. Mental. RIP #CecilTheLion I'm struggling to imagine anything more beautiful than this."
