5SOS' Luke Hemmings loves the band making fun of themselves

5 Seconds of Summer star Luke Hemmings says the band like making fun of themselves.

The Aussie pop-punks have developed a reputation for having a laugh during interviews and on stage.

Speaking in a new interview with Variety, the quartet opened up on the influences running through their music videos.

Guitarist and vocalist Hemmings said that the band are happy to take the mickey out of themselves in their clips.

Drummer Ashton Irwin said: "I think a lot of ’90s and early 2000s bands made some pretty cool videos, in the sense that the grades they used and the tone of their videos were cool."

Hemmings added: "I love the idea of making fun of yourself as a band and having the really cool performances and the humorous side of it. All those videos in the ’90s and 2000s."

Irwin continued: "We’re not hugely into copying people, though. We really want to do something different and unique and interesting to people.

"We try to have elements of our favourite videos in our videos, but then we really put our own 5SOS twist on it."

Bassist Calum Hood meanwhile added that the group like to "have a message" even their videos, even if you have to dig a little deeper to find it.

5 Seconds of Summer were speaking after their track 'She's Kinda Hot' won the Song of the Summer prize at this year's MTV VMAs.
