Superstar Avril Lavigne has taken to her official Instagram account to tell her fans that she has split from husband, Chad Kroeger. 

She married the Nickelback frontman in July 2013 and has now confirmed that they are no longer together, but remain close friends and will support each other through this difficult time:

"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today."

The 'What The Hell' songstress continued: "Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."

Back in April, Kroeger spoke out about Lavigne's battle with Lyme disease and admitted that she asked him not to mention it during interviews: "I'm like, 'OK, the wife has come out and said this and now I don't have to keep hiding... with everyone going, 'What's wrong with your wife...', and me just going, 'Ah, she's gonna be fine'. I'm like, 'OK, I can talk about this now'."

"She said, 'Can you do me a favour? When you do all your interviews, can you not talk about it'... (But) things are looking up and definitely getting better."
