Sam Smith reveals he recorded new James Bond theme in January

Sam Smith says the new James Bond theme song has been in the can since the start of 2015.

The singer finally announced today (September 8) that he has recorded the song 'Writing's On The Wall' for upcoming spy film Spectre.

It ended months of speculation that also linked Ellie Goulding to the role.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw after revealing the news, Smith admitted that he has been sitting on his secret for around eight months.

He said: "We recorded it in January, and I've been waiting to tell people for such a long time.

"I haven't told hardly anyone, so this is amazing. I'm excited for today."

The Brit added: "I had to keep this [secret] or I literally would have been shot."

The Sun, however, revealed one year ago that Smith was in negotiations to work on the theme.

The track meanwhile will be released on September 25, with the film following on October 26.
