Carly Rae Jepsen isn't intimidated by Taylor Swift: 'It's not a contest'

Singer Carly Rae Jepsen has revealed that she doesn't see superstar Taylor Swift as her competitor.

Speaking to the Sunday Times Culture magazine, the songstress admitted that she was a little surprised to see Swift was releasing an eighties themed album, but she wasn't concerned because both of their records are so very different:

"I remember hearing '1989' and thinking Taylor's doing Eighties too but I wasn't worried because we've done the Eighties in such a different way, I certainly don't consider it a contest."

Referring to her new sound, Jepsen confessed that she went down a personal route and experimented with the music until she found a style that fit her lyrics and goal for the record:

"I just kept writing until I found a sound that I loved. I think of the early songs as reeds that eventually pulled me in this direction. To me, it's just an album that reflects my personality. That's probably why there's so much pining over love and intimacy in it."

On September 18, Jepsen will make an appearance at London's HMV on Oxford Street to sign copies of her new album 'Emotion'. She will also perform a short acoustic set and ticket information can be found here
