Kremlin denies Putin's phonecall to Sir Elton John over gay rightsEarlier this week, music icon Sir Elton John revealed that he wants to sit down with Russian President Putin to talk about the country's approach to LGBT rights. Yesterday, Sir Elton told his Instagram followers that Putin had actually called him on the telephone to discuss the issue, writing: "Thank-you to President Vladimir Putin for reaching out and speaking via telephone with me today. I look to forward to meeting with you face-to-face to discuss LGBT equality in Russia." Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has now confirmed that Putin did not reach out to the musician, despite what he has claimed on social media: "I don't know who spoke to Elton John but President Putin did not speak to him. I don't know [what happened] but President Putin did not speak to Elton John and most importantly we didn't receive any proposals to meet." Peskov went onto add that Putin is very open when it comes to discussing human rights so it's not too far-fetched to think that he would meet or talk with the star in the future: "If the president does get such a signal from Elton John, the president has always been open to discuss any... human rights problems, any issues. He is always ready to clarify the real situation." Follow us: @Pressparty on Twitter / Pressparty on Facebook. Watch Sir Elton discussing human rights here:
