Shawn Mendes: 'No amount of success allows you to stop working hard'

'Stitches' hitmaker Shawn Mendes has revealed that he is always critical of his older material because the more he writes, the better he gets and it can be tough to look back at his earlier songs.

Speaking to Billboard at the recent iHeartRadio Music Festival, the Canadian superstar explained:

"When you’re songwriting and stuff, you just hate your old stuff, All you want to do is release the new stuff because that’s, to you, so much better and you just want to get that out there."

He continued, adding that he's really eager to see how fans react to his new music when he unveils it: "But I think you’ve got to take your time. I’m excited for when we eventually do release it to see reactions.”

The heartthrob went onto add that the most important lesson he has learned is that achieving success doesn't mean you can stop working hard: “I think the biggest thing I’ve learned is there’s no amount of success that allows you to stop working hard, or, you know, kind of like brush off interviews or whatever your promo."
