The nominees for this year's Q Awards have been revealed and it sees the likes of Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and American songstress Taylor Swift up for various prizes. 

The ceremony will take place on October 19 and Q magazine's senior editor Matt Mason explained that this year's nominations "represent the very best talent from another inventive and exciting year for music".

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran is up for Best Live Act, Best Solo Artist, and Best Act In The World Today while 'Like I Can' hitmaker Sam Smith has been recognised in the Best Solo Artist category. Taylor Swift is also up for the Best Solo Artist prize, so there is tough competition in that particular area. 

Other nominees for the Q Awards include singer Jess Glynne, rock trio Muse, Florence + The Machine, The Libertines, The Weeknd, Kanye West and Noel Gallagher.
