Rihanna has landed a starring role in a big-budget 3D sci-fi movie

Rihanna is set to add another acting credit to her filmography in the form of a big-budget sci-fi thriller.

Director Luc Besson revealed the news about the ‘American Oxygen’ star’s latest role via Instagram.

Besson – who has previously directed the likes of ‘The Fifth Element’ and ‘Taken’ – informed his followers that Rihanna is to play a “big part” in his new film ‘Valerian’.

‘Valerian’ is based on a comic book loved by Besson and will begin filming in January 2016.

Set for a summer 2017 release, the reported budget for ‘Valerian’ is $180 million and will be shown in 3D.

Rihanna’s previous film roles have seen her starring in action movie ‘Battleship’, comedy ‘This Is The End’, a brief appearance in the Will Smith-produced remake of ‘Annie’, and she voiced the main character in the DreamWork’s animation ‘Home’.
