Shawn Mendes exceeds fundraising goal for school in Ghana

Canadian heartthrob Shawn Mendes has hit an incredible 164% of his fundraising goal to build a school in rural Ghana with the non-profit education organisation Pencils of Promise.

He set out to raise $25,000 and funded 98% of his campaign after just one social media post, which shows why he was chosen as one of TIME magazine's Most Influential Teens recently, and he did so by selling exclusive merchandise to fans.

The director of marketing for Pencils of Promise, Natalie Ebel, issued a statement on the money raised: "Shawn has been an amazing partner to Pencils of Promise. For so many children, a PoP school is the safest most sound structure in their community and Shawn is helping to give more deserving children a safe learning environment."

Mendes confessed that he's very proud of the fundraising achievement and admitted that he really looks forward to continuing to build more schools with Pencils of Promise in the future.

“I’m so excited we were able to raise enough funds to build a school for the kids in Shia, Ghana. This means the world to me that my fans joined me and supported such an amazing cause.”
