Elvis Presley beats Little Mix to No.1 on the UK albums chart

Despite a serious challenge from Little Mix with 'Get Weird' at the start of the week, the King of rock and roll has held on to the top spot of the Official Albums Chart for a second week.

Elvis Presley’s 'If I Can Dream', which includes reworkings of his classic hits by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, notched up over 88,600 combined chart sales, beating his first-week tally.

This feat means 'If I Can Dream' has landed the second biggest weekly chart sales of any No.1 album in 2015, behind Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, who scored 89,110 chart sales with 'Chasing Yesterday' in March. Upon reaching the top spot, Elvis became the male solo artist with the most UK No.1 albums, with 12 chart-toppers to his name.

Little Mix’s third album 'Get Weird' gives them a new chart peak on the Official Albums Chart – it’s brand new at No.2. Also on her third album, Ellie Goulding’s 'Delirium' is brand new at No.3.

Rod Stewart’s 'Another Country' falls two places to No.4 and the deluxe reissue of the Beatles’ chart-topping album '1' rounds off today’s Top 5.

Pointless star Alexander Armstrong switches presenting for pop stardom – his debut album 'A Year Of Songs' is new at No.6. Alexander’s success also gives him a new chart record – he’s at No.1 on the Official Classical Albums Chart, making him the first ever comedian to top that chart.

A welcome return for Anastacia, who scores her sixth Top 10 with her 'Ultimate Collection', going in at No.10, while Bob Dylan collection 'The Best of the Cutting Edge 1965–1966' is new at No.11. They’re trailed by Seal, who lands a fifth Top 20 album – '7' is a new entry at Number 13.

Rocketing 77 places, Michael Bublé dusts off his baubles as his Christmas album enjoys a festive boost (21) and Grimes hits a personal best chart position with 'Art Angels' (31). Returning to the Top 40 this week are Elvis Presley’s 'Elv1s – 30 Number 1 Hits' (37) and The Stone Roses’ classic self-titled debut (40).
