1D and Selena Gomez help raise £37 million for 'Children In Need'

One Direction and other prominent music stars have helped raise a record breaking total of £37 million this weekend during the annual six-hour long telethon for 'Children In Need'.

Selena Gomez also made an appearance and flew in to perform her latest single 'Same Old Love', and British songstress Ellie Goulding took to the stage with her latest single, 'Army'.

The BBC's director general, Tony Hall, issued a statement about the incredible fundraising effort and said: “Thank you everyone who’s taken part – doing whatever they can for ‘Children in Need’. But, most of all, thank you to all our viewers and listeners for every moment of support they’ve shown and every donation they’ve made.”

Chief executive of BBC 'Children in Need', David Ramsden, added that the public “should be feeling incredibly proud of what has been achieved… Their remarkable generosity will save a lot of lives.” Last year's total was £32 million.
