5 Seconds of Summer: 'Our mission is to be a band for everyone'

Aussie pop-punk band 5 Seconds Of Summer gave a revealing new interview to the Rolling Stone and opened up about being referred to as a boyband

Drummer Ashton Irwin admitted that they often feel as though they have to prove their authenticity, but they try not to let it get to them because they know they don't fit the typical conventions of that label:

"Seventy-five percent of our lives is proving we're a real band. We're getting good at it now. We don't want to just be, like, for girls. We want to be for everyone. That's the great mission that we have. I'm already seeing a few male fans start to pop up, and that's cool. If the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and all those guys can do it, we can do it, too."

5SOS, meanwhile, are nominated in Pressparty's end of year readers' poll, which is open for voting until December 31 at 8pm UK time. They're up for Best Musical Act of 2015, Song of the Year, Best Male, Music Video of the Year, Best Fandom, Most Anticipated Tour of 2016, and Best Album of 2015. Click here to vote now.
