Justin Bieber album graffiti under investigation in San Francisco

Promotional graffiti for Justin Bieber's latest album is under investigation in San Francisco.

Artwork for the singer's record 'Purpose' appeared recently in neighbourhoods such as Haight-Ashbury.

However, San Francisco's city attorney Dennis Herrera is asking Bieber's label Universal about the origins of the graffiti.

He said that the artwork was removed from public walls at a great expense.

In a letter, Herrera said the graffiti is "irresponsible" and goes against tourism.

He said: "This prohibited marketing practice illegally exploits our city's walkable neighborhoods and robust tourism, intentionally creates visual distractions that pose risks to pedestrians on busy rights of way, and irresponsibly tells our youth that likeminded lawlessness and contempt for public property are condoned and encouraged by its beneficiaries."
