Doctors order Aretha Franklin to cancel shows

Soul singer Aretha Franklin has been forced to cancel all concerts for the next six months after she was recently hospitalised.

Franklin, 68, was admitted to Detroit’s Sinai-Grace Hospital with an undisclosed medical condition and stayed for several days.

The cancellations have been recommended by her doctors, explained Franklin’s publicist Tracey Jordan.

In a statement, she said: “Doctors’ orders have required her to cancel all concert and personal appearances through May 2011.”

The ‘Respect’ singer had shows scheduled in the US in November and December which are now cancelled in addition to two shows last week in Missouri and Virginia.

The singer was also forced to cancel appearances in August after breaking two ribs in a fall.
