Jared Leto on Kanye’s “last second” EMA cameo

Jared Leto of 30 Seconds To Mars has revealed just how short of notice the surprise performance with Kanye West at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) in Madrid came together.

The rapper joined the group on stage to rap a verse from the band’s song ‘Hurricane’ and also performed a short snippet of his own single ‘Power’.

Talking to MTV News, Leto said of the show: “This wasn't even last-minute, more like last-second. Literally a day and a half ago, he was in New York and he got on, literally, the last flight, he made it out here.

Leto added in praise of Kanye: “It's really a testament to him ... I mean, Kanye West flew halfway across the world to be on the stage with 30 Seconds to Mars for a short period of time."

However, the performance was thrown together with little planning until moments before the band took the stage, with Kanye adding his clip of ‘Power’ to the setlist mere minutes before going on. Leto said they all “knew it was going to be imperfect and a bit of a beautiful disaster”.

On top of performing at the awards, 30 Seconds To Mars won the EMA award for Best Rock Act.
