Janelle Monáe says Prince tour is a career maker

Janelle Monáe has revealed that her opening slot for Prince on his ‘Welcome 2 America’ Tour is fulfilling a lifelong dream.

Speaking to MTV News, Monáe said: “I’m excited. We’re great friends. I’m honoured that he had chosen me to be a part of the tour.”

Monáe has been one of the most buzzed about acts this year with her soul-infused sound, being mentored by P Diddy and she cracked the top ten of the NME Cool List this year. However, she says she still had things to want in her career.

"It's definitely one of the things that I wanted to do in my career, is tour with him," she said of Prince. "And it just means a lot that he's a mentor to me and he loves the stuff that we're doing and he's going to help out every way he can to make the show phenomenal."

On any future collaborations, she said: "We may [collaborate], we may."
