Marie Osmond’s tearful tribute to son

On Thursday’s episode of ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ singer Marie Osmond opened up about the suicide of her adopted son Michael and performed in his honour through more than a few tears.

Michael jumped from his high rise apartment in Los Angeles on February 26 this year after suffering from a depression that left him feeling isolated and without friends, as Marie explained.

Osmond had been talking to her son shortly before his death and was concerned, planning a visit to see him. However, as Marie was completing her commitments to her Las Vegas show with brother Donny, her son took his own life.

"I told him," she said through her tears. "Sorry. I told him, I said, 'Mike, I'm going to be there Monday and it's going to be OK.' But depression doesn't wait 'til Monday.

"I've been through some tough things in my life, Oprah," Osmond said. "This is probably the hardest thing I've been through."

After the emotional interview, Marie sang a moving and tearful rendition of ‘Pie Jesu’ sang in an operatic style different from her usual approach. The star had to start the song over and had trouble finishing.
