President Obama pays tribute to Prince after death

US President Barack Obama has paid his respects to music star Prince, who died on Thursday (April 21).

The music world was sent into shock after news broke that the 57-year-old had passed away in his Paisley Park complex in Minneapolis.

He was found unresponsive in an elevator and paramedics were unable to revive him.

US President Obama has offered a tribute to the late star, saying he was a musician who could "do it all".

The Democrat said: "Few artists have influenced the sound and trajectory of popular music more distinctly, or touched quite so many people with their talent.

"As one of the most gifted and prolific musicians of our time, Prince did it all. Funk. R&B. Rock and roll."

Prince performed in the White House for Obama last summer.

A plethora of other stars have paid tribute to Prince, such as Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Lionel Richie.

The musician's health was brought into focus recently after one of his flights made an emergency landing following a concert at Atlanta's Fox Theatre.

However, it was stated that Prince was battling flu and was released back home soon after.
