Amber Riley talks about starring in stage musical production of Dreamgirls

'Glee' sensation Amber Riley stars in the upcoming stage musical production of Dreamgirls on London's West End and she has revealed that it's nothing short of an honour to be involved.

She will play the role of soul singer Effie White and told Britain's Hello! magazine that it's really excited: "There is so much expectation as it's such a huge role. I know it's an honour to be in the West End."

Riley explained that she feels connected to her character and spent time trying to understand the song lyrics so that she was able to perform them authentically: "The things about these songs is that you have to understand what the words mean... I connect with the story of Effie a lot - being a plus-size black woman in Hollywood and having to deal with rejection."

Referring to the end of 'Glee', she added: "All good things must come to an end. But the last week was so sad. It was weird because you go from being on set every day and people telling you what you are doing tomorrow, to having to take control of your life."

Dreamgirls will begin previews at the Savoy Theatre in November.
