Prince's Purple Rain jacket expected to sell for £69k at auction

A jacket worn by Prince in his 1984 film Purple Rain is expected to reach up to £69,000 ($99,950) at an auction.

A number of items associated with the late star will go on sale at California's Profiles in History auction house in June.

They include a white shirt from Purple Rain and knee-high white-heeled boots worn on Prince's Lovesexy tour in 1988.

A black and white jacket from Purple Rain, however, is expected to sell for big bucks and smash its asking prince of just £4,000 ($5,795).

Auctioneer Joe Maddalena commented: "Probably the signature thing he is known for is Purple Rain. It's what made his career. It's probably what he'll be remembered for always.

"To have an important piece like this is pretty astonishing and an amazing opportunity.

"The jacket is estimated at £4,000 to £5,500, but who knows? After Michael Jackson's untimely death, his items went through the roof. Things that were £3,000 to £7,000 were selling for £130,000. I have no idea what to expect.

"I would not be surprised to see the Prince jacket sell for £34,000 [to] £69,000.”

Prince passed away in April at the age of 57, with his cause of death not yet determined.
