5 times Adam Lambert inspired us with his insight

Hitmaker Adam Lambert has enjoyed an incredible rise to fame since finishing in second place on 'American Idol' back in 2009 and his presence in the press is always welcome because he always has such insight to give.

Here at Pressparty, we have rounded up our five favourite quotes from Adam that we've reported on over the past four years.

One of them, the first one listed below, he gave exclusively to us when we sat down to interview him and it has stuck in our minds ever since. We hope you enjoy our top quotes and let us know what yours are in the comments section below.

1. On being proud of his sexuality in an industry that still has a way to go where equality and acceptance are concerned:

We spoke exclusively to the 'Ghost Town' sensation back in 2012 and he gave us a quote we've never forgotten. When asked about being openly gay in an industry that, at the time, was struggling with LGBT acceptance more than it is now, he told us that he considered himself to be "a post-gay man working in a pre-gay industry":

"While I do feel like the U.S. has made social progress, I think there is still a lot of ignorance on the topic of sexuality. I still long for the LGBT community's diversity to be more broadly represented in the entertainment industry. I think larger strides have been made in film and TV but we still are just at the beginning with mainstream music. I consider myself a post-gay man working in a pre-gay industry."

2. On cyberbullying and dealing on online trolls:

Back in March 2012, Lambert told Yahoo! that he tries to focus on the fact that "happy people are just living their life - they've not got time to hate."

In December 2015, he revisited the issue in an interview with Britain's Telegraph newspaper and confessed that social media has made it easier to communicate with people you wouldn't normally have access to, but it also has some really dark downsides:

"I think the information age and social media has turned into this amazing place for us to connect and communicate, but it also creates a lot of issues. People pick things apart and it’s a lot easier to get offended by text on a screen than it is by an actual person because you miss the nuance and the intention behind things and the emotion behind things. People take things so literally right now."

3. On personal growth:

During a fan-led Twitter Q&A session back in 2012, Lambert was asked about writing his song 'Chokehold' and admitted that it was inspired by identifying that he was getting into relationships with manipulative and emotionally unavailable men because he had a low self-worth, and he thought it was important to acknowledge that realisation:

"It was written about a few past relationships. had a tendency of getting involved w emotionally manipulative and unavailable guys. after much heartache, I realised this was MY issue, not theirs. I was subconsciously inviting that in cuz of low self worth."

4. On his goal as an artist:

Two months ago, Lambert spoke to Billboard magazine about what he believes makes a unique artist and explained that he feels it's important to create something people want to talk about and engage with: "But as an artist. I think you want conversation. You want people to talk about what you’re doing.”

He also told The Insider that retaining his artistic integrity has allowed him to grow a strong fan base, which supports him in everything he tries out now that he has established himself: "At this point it has been six years since 'Idol' and I know my fan base really well... all I have to do is be myself."

5. On the importance of music and using it to connect with the world:

During his Original High tour, Lambert made a stop at Terminal 5 in New York City and inspired us with a speech he made during his set. The Huffington Post reviewed the concert and shared the transcript of what he told the crowd, which we think is very poignant and unifying. Read it in full below:

"The thing that I've noticed about breaking out of theatre and breaking out of LA and travelling is that no matter where you're from, no matter how old you are, or what the colour of your skin is, no matter what gender you are, no matter what religion you are, what sexual preference you are, however you want to label yourself, which is getting so passé anyway, we're all human beings. And you know what? We've all got hearts. They're the same damn organ and they feel a lot of the same shit and that's what I love. I love that music can connect us and bring us together."
