UK MC Stormzy is honoured with prestigious South Bank Sky Arts award

UK MC Stormzy, whose real name is Michael Omari, was honoured at this year's South Bank Sky Arts Awards.

The event, which is set to be broadcast on Sky Arts next week (June 8), saw the rising star receive the Breakthrough award.

Stormzy - real name Michael Omari - received a Breakthrough award at the event, which was hosted by Lord Melvyn Bragg and will be broadcast on Sky Arts on 8 June.

Earlier this evening, Stormzy tweeted a message of thanks to his fans and explained that he is very proud to have won the prize: "Honoured to have won the prestigious @thetimes South Bank Breakthrough Award! Thank you to those that voted."

As previously reported, the 'Shut Up' star spoke out in support of the Labour party's Jeremy Corbyn and told The Guardian newspaper that he has a good 'energy' about him: "My man, Jeremy! Young Jeremy, my guy. I dig what he says. I saw some sick picture of him from back in the day when he was campaigning about anti-apartheid and I thought: yeah, I like your energy."
