Liam Gallagher apologises after sending offensive and homophobic 'batty boy' tweet

Liam Gallagher has apologised after sending a homophobic tweet.

The singer caused controversy on the social networking platform on Wednesday (June 15) after he said Russian football hooligans causing violence at Euro 2016 were more like "batty boys".

In a now deleted tweet, the Oasis man said: "Russian hooligans skintight shorts bumbags batty boy muscles ha ha.

"I’d be more worried bout getting me arse pinched LG X."

Gallagher attracted criticism from a host of Twitter users for his comments.

A day later, the Mancunian apologised for offending anyone - including his brother Noel, who he calls RKID.

Gallagher said: "If I've upset anybody with my tweets I apologise that includes you RKID as you were LG x."
