Bastille say female nudity in new video isn't 'gratuitous'

Bastille have explained the female nudity included in one of their new videos.

The group recently unveiled the clip for 'Good Grief', but some YouTube users have objected to its occasional shots of nudity.

Speaking to Digital Spy, singer Dan Smith said the video centres around "surrealism" and isn't sexualised.

He said: "The video is all about surrealism. It's an extended dream sequence. It's been really interesting reading comments from my perspective.

"Some people are bringing up the nudity and other people are immediately jumping to its defence saying it's not sexualised and it doesn't feel exploitative.

"The music video takes scenes and tropes and flips them on their head. One of which is a girl and I think it's interesting to see the reaction it provokes. In some countries and some societies, female nudity isn't remotely controversial."

Bandmate Will Farquarson added: "It wasn't gratuitous. I think it's well in keeping with the tone of the video."

Bastille's second album 'Wild World' will be released on September 9.
