Music stars worldwide react to horror of terror attack in Nice

The world has suffered another catastrophe, this time in the southern French city of Nice.

It has been reported that the death toll has now risen to 84, but hundreds still remain in hospital seriously injured and fighting for their lives.

Last night (July 14) a crowd of party revellers were celebrating Bastille Day, a national holiday in France which remembers the day in 1789 when just under a thousand Parisians stormed the Bastille prison to release its seven inmates.

Celebrations where taking place along the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, when a large truck sped along the crowds, mowing them down like dominoes. Amongst the carnage, lay the lifeless bodies of children.

Witnesses have reported that the driver swerved back and forth to kill as many people as possible, before jumping out and shouting 'Allahu Akbar!" (Arabic for "God is great") as he shot the remaining crowd.

The driver and gunman has been named as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year-old Nice resident of Tunisian origin, who was married with three children, and did not appear to have any radical or Islamic views.

However, he was already well-known to French police for his anti-social behaviour and committing common law crimes like theft. He was killed by police but it is unknown if there are still further suspects at large, given that police found grenades and heavy weapons in the vehicle.

President Hollande said: "We cannot deny that it was a terror attack".
