Will Smith defends Suicide Squad after criticism

Will Smith has hit back after his latest movie was panned by critics.

The actor and rapper features in the film Suicide Squad as the character Deadshot.

The movie banked $135.1 million (£103.3 million) over its debut weekend, but it hasn't been too well received in the press.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Smith said he is happy to take on "creative" projects even if they run the risk of being panned.

He said: "I feel like at this point in my career I've earned the right to fail.

"Right, so I'm gonna take shots and I'm not gonna hit 'em all because I'm gonna be trying really wild, aggressive creative things.

"Some of them will be critically acclaimed, some of them will make money and some of them will be Wild Wild West."
