The latest episode of "Catfish", which aired in the USA this week, centres around a man that believes he spent six years talking to pop sensation Katy Perry over the phone.

Spencer Morrill opened up about the situation and confessed that he met a woman on a social app around six years ago who told him she was the "Dark Horse" superstar. He even bought her an engagement ring, which he explained cost "25%" of his total life savings. 

The show's presenter Nev, at one point in the preview, says: "It's one of the most ridiculous things we've ever heard." Morrill told Nev that "she's awesome. Katy's funnier than I am, she's smarter than I am. I don't know how many people give her credit for that, but she's very intelligent. Katy's full of life, huge heart."

Unfortunately, it turned out that the woman Morrill had been involved with was named Harriet from Gloucester in England. When they finally met up, she told him: "I just got to a point to where I couldn't imagine not talking to you. I've been through some tough times throughout the time we've been talking the past six years. Like, my dad died two years ago."
