John Lennon's murderer denied parole for a ninth time

John Lennon's killer Mark Chapman has been denied parole once again.

The 61-year-old has now failed to secure his release from prison for a ninth time.

Chapman gunned down Lennon outside his home in New York City on December 8, 1980.

He was given a jail term of 20 years to life.

In 2014, Chapman told the parole board that he had discovered religion and was an "idiot" for shooting the Beatles star.

The New York Daily News said Lennon's wife Yoko Ono wrote a letter requesting Chapman was not given parole.
