Bob Dylan wins the 2016 Nobel Prize for literature

Iconic songwriter Bob Dylan has been named the recipient of the Nobel Prize in literature today (October 13). 

The 75-year-old music legend was honoured with the coveted award "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition," and the Nobel Prize in literature has been given to 113 people since it began in 1901. 

Previous winners include Orhan Parmuk ("The Reluctant Fundamentalist"), Doris Lessing, Toni Morrison, Gabriel García Márquez and William Golding ("Lord of the Flies").
