Sting on deaths of legendary artists: 'We suffer from the delusion that they are immortal'

Sting has revealed that this year's loss of some of the world's most iconic musicians has shattered the illusion that appeared to suggest the greats are somehow immortal.

He told The Sun newspaper that finding out about the deaths of artists such as David Bowie, who passed away in January after a battle with cancer, and Prince, who died back in April, was nothing short of sobering:

"All of us suffer from the delusion that cultural icons like Prince and David Bowie are somehow immortal. There's a god-like quality about them. They were extraordinary artists and a huge loss to the world of music."

Last night, it was confirmed that legendary singer Leonard Cohen has died at the age of 82 and a statement was issued on the sad news: "We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief."
