Billie Piper on pop career: "It was on some level deeply traumatic"

Actress Billie Piper has revealed that her career as a pop singer was "deeply traumatic" and incredibly tough

During a new interview with Evening Standard's ES magazine, she explained that she has blocked memories of that period out because it was simply so difficult to go through:

"What's even more alarming is that I can't even remember (those years). It wasn't like I was out, getting wrecked. It was because I must have just shut it out. Which is probably because it was on some level deeply traumatic. Not because I was some horrible child slave, I just worked so hard. I have never worked as hard as I did in those years."

Billie Piper began her career in pop with an ad for music magazine Smash Hits, then went onto record some successful singles including "Because We Want To" and "Honey to the Bee", before moving onto acting. She recently won the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress for her role in theatre production Yerma
