"Starboy" hitmaker The Weeknd has revealed that he used to drink before a performance because it helped him to calm his nerves. 

During an interview with Zane Lowe, which will air later today, the star admitted that he's lucky to have found a strong and supportive team and he no longer feels that same anxiety because he's more secure in himself as an artist.

When asked if he ever feels like he's slipping, he said: "Yes, but I have a good team. It's good to have a good team. Especially a team that you've grew up with. I feel like everybody kinda loses who they are when they start cutting the people that made them who they are."

"When it comes down to performing and being that person you need to be strong. I'm not up there lip-syncing. I don't have back-up dancers, I don't have crazy s**t going on. It's all about me and the microphone. I used to go on stage drunk ... [for the] nerves."
