A Harry Styles tweet which referenced lyrics by ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift was the second most shared message on Twiter in 2016.

The singer wrote 'I don't know about you, but I'm feeling 22' on February 1 as he celebrated his birthday. At the time of writing, it has been retweeted over 706,000 times.

The most shared tweet of 2016 was a message by a Spanish gamer known as Elrubius, who simply said 'Limonada'. It got over 1.3 million retweets.

Harry Styles is the most followed British person on Twitter in the UK with 29.5 million fans, with Adele second (27.5 million) and Louis Tomlinson third (23.5 million).

Rio2016 was the top global trend on Twitter as users talked about the Olympic Games, while the US presidential election, Pokemon Go and Euro 2016 were also popular.
