One Direction's Liam Payne sends gifts to hometown hospital

Singer Liam Payne, of One Direction fame, recently donated "a few hundred" presents to patients of New Cross Hospital in his hometown of Wolverhampton.

The heartthrob didn't visit the hospital personally, but Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust's charity coordinator, Leanne Bood, explained in a statement that he orchestrated the gift drop himself and it was very welcome:

'I got a call from someone who works with Liam asking if it was okay for the gifts to be delivered. Of course I was delighted to and we set about arranging it. We just want to say a huge thank you to Liam for this wonderful gesture and also to everyone who has helped the Charity this past year."

The gifts, according to the statement, are for youngsters between the ages of 0-18 and will be opened on Christmas Day (December 25). Payne, meanwhile, recently told fans during a Twitter Q&A that he is currently "the happiest I could be."
