Music stars react to the death of Carrie Fisher

'Star Wars' actress and all-round icon Carrie Fisher sadly passed away this week following a heart attack on board a flight from London to Los Angeles, and stars of the music world have been paying tribute to her online.

Fisher, 60, was initially reported to be in a stable condition after suffering a heart attack, but the publicist for her daughter Billie Lourd confirmed on Tuesday that she died in L.A. on Tuesday (December 27).

She was known for her iconic role as Princess Leia, but was also well-respected for her mental health advocacy and the way in which she spoke out about living with bipolar disorder. Fisher also appeared in many other films and was a much loved writer.

'Closer' singer Halsey, who has been vocal about her own mental health struggles, tweeted: "Carrie Fisher dedicated her platform to mental health awareness & female empowerment. She is a reason + reminder to keep up your fight. RIP."

Paramore's frontwoman Hayley Williams shared the following post: "Carrie Fisher. Her story reminds me there is grace in owning your struggles just as powerfully as your strengths. Always need reminding."

Chat show host Ellen DeGeneres tweeted: "@CarriefFisher was a brilliant writer, actor, and friend. She was so much fun. I can't believe she's gone."

Bette Midler wrote: "Carrie Fisher didn't make it. I am so terribly sorry, and send my sincere condolences to her family, friends and fans all around the world."
