Janelle Monáe says Pharrell Williams encouraged her to actJanelle Monáe has revealed that Pharrell Williams gave her a confidence-boosting pep talk about pursuing more acting roles. The singer features in Hidden Figures, a new flick about three female African-American mathematicians who worked for NASA in the 1960s, while Williams produced the movie and co-wrote its score. Speaking to the New York Times, Monáe admitted she had some reservations about branching out into acting - but it seems Williams was on hand to encourage her. She said: "He [Pharrell] pulled me to the side and he said, 'Listen, I just want you to know that I believe in you as an actor, I believe in your ability to do movies. You must continue to pursue this'. I said, 'OK, Pharrell. All right. If you say so'."
