Ray BLK named winner of the BBC Sound Of 2017

Unsigned artist Ray BLK has been crowned the winner of BBC Sound of 2017, beating the likes of Rag'n'Bone Man and Nadia Rose to the punch.

The 22-year-old singer-songwriter from London, whose stage name stands for Building Living Knowing, spoke to the BBC about her momentous win and admitted that it's an honour: “Winning the BBC Sound of 2017 has to be the most surprising thing that’s happened to me thus far."

“I feel so honoured to have topped the list this early in my career and join such an incredible alumni of winners. Thank you so much to the BBC and all the voters! I’m particularly proud to be a part of this year’s list as it’s full of so much talent, some of whom are independent artists like myself which I really hope inspires the next generation of artists.”

Previous winners have included Sam Smith, Adele, Jack Garratt and HAIM. This year's Top 5 is as follows:

1. Ray BLK
2. Rag ‘n’ Bone Man
3. RAYE
4. Jorja Smith
5. Nadia Rose
