Brian May: 'Adam is incredible, but we like that Freddie sprinkles fairy dust on it all'

Iconic Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed that while performing with Adam Lambert is incredible, his band still aims to keep the late Freddie Mercury as involved as possible because he brings a kind of "fairy dust" to their stage sets that is irreplaceable.

He told the Sunday Express that he attended the cremation of Mercury’s 94-year-old mother and it was an incredibly moving ceremony that reminded him a great deal of his friend:

"I went along and I think I felt like I was saying goodbye to Freddie again because he was very much there in spirit and of course very much talked about. They played Queen music throughout, along with these incredibly ancient Persian incantations, so it was a very moving experience.”

Brian May went onto add that they're very grateful to have Adam Lambert on board, but they will never stop acknowledging Freddie in their performances:

“We have Adam (Lambert), who’s an incredible performer in his own right. But you know Freddie is part of the creation of all that material and we like to have him appearing now and then to sprinkle some fairy dust on it all.”

Back in November, drummer Roger Taylor explained that new original material might be on the horizon: “If we do anything in future, I’d like it to be something new. I don’t know how new it would sound but I think if Brian and I could come up with a song or two, which we felt fitted (we’d release it) [...] It’s quite possible. We’re really enjoying (performing live). We’ve just come back from the Far East, well about a month ago now, which was phenomenal."
