Katy Perry and Cher to join Women’s March in Washington

The likes of Katy Perry and Cher have added their weight behind the upcoming Women’s March on Washington, which will voice support for women's rights.

The two music stars will attend the event on February 21 - US president elect Donald Trump's first day in office. Also newly signed up are stars like Zendaya and Angelique Kidjo.

Further celebrities due to appear on the day include Scarlett Johansson, Amy Schumer, Julianne Moore, Chelsea Handler, Debra Messing and Frances McDormand. Actress America Ferrera will act as chair of the Artist Table for the event and she commented:

"Since the election, so many fear that their voices will go unheard. As artists, women and, most importantly, dedicated Americans, it is critical that we stand together in solidarity for the protection, dignity and rights of our communities. Immigrant rights, worker rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQIA rights, racial justice and environmental rights are not special interests, they affect us all."

Over 150 other marches are planned in all of the US states, as well as in countries across the globe.
